Welcome to Ilha Grande

Dear friend:

Welcome to Ilha Grande!

We would like to welcome you to our island and inform you that Ilha Grande is an area of Environmental Protection (APA) and a state park. We do every possible effort to potect it, and we need to count on your help for this. We know that the island isn´t exactly the way you´d want to find it, we are not completely happy either. But if it wasn´t for the joint effort of the community and tourists, it could be much worse.

The village of Abraão is a simple and bucolic place. It offers a wide variety of pousadas (small inns) and restaurants from which to choose. For your comfort and safety, we recommend that you not accept the constant offers of lodging made to you. Take the time you need to find the kind of place you want. Those places offered at low prices may not be the best option. If you choose carefully, then the island will be your own SPA. No need to stress out. Protect the nature; DON´T take anything and DON´T leave anything either. DON´T remove starfishes or other sea species from where they are; they are fragile animals and they shouldn´t be brought to the surface. Take underwater photos with them instead.

The village is a quit place, there are basic, although effective community services such as a medical clinic, a police station and a fire station.

DON`T use drugs, it´s against the law and could cause you serious troubles as well as spoil your stay on the island.

We wish you a pleasant stay. We are sure that you will take fond memories and nice photos, and that you will leave good friends behind.

Thank you.
